What is Korean Glass Art Design (KGAD)?

Korea Glass Art Design, also known as KGAD, is an established art form originating from Korea.

Inspired by the visual beauty of traditional stained glass, KGAD focuses on colour, composition, and design to create its distinctive stained glass inspired appearance.

One of the unique elements of KGAD is how the art form can be applied to a variety of decorative and functional pieces. KGAD can be incorporated into clocks, lamps, picture frames, mirrors, suncatchers, and more, allowing each design to become a piece that can be displayed, enjoyed, and incorporated into everyday spaces.

Does KGAD use real glass?

No. KGAD does not involve cutting or soldering traditional glass.

Instead, KGAD uses an acrylic base, professional grade coloured films, and metallic liners to recreate the transparency, colour, and lined appearance associated with stained glass.

If you are specifically looking for traditional glass cutting or soldering, please note that KGAD is a different art form and process.

What materials do KGAD workshops use?

The quality of our materials is an important part of the KGAD experience.

Our high quality acrylic bases are custom made and sourced directly from Korea specifically for our projects. They are selected for their clarity, durability, and beautiful interaction with light.

Our professional grade coloured films and metallic liners are sourced from the UK and manufactured by a glass manufacturer that also produces traditional glass products. These are specialized materials used for glass related applications and are different from ordinary coloured plastic or general craft films.

Together, these materials create the transparency, depth of colour, texture, and metallic detailing that give KGAD its distinctive glass inspired appearance.

Why is it called “Glass Art” if it does not use traditional glass?

Korea Glass Art Design is the established name of the art form and is not a name created by our studio.

While traditional glass is not used as the base, KGAD is closely connected to glass art through its specialized materials, techniques, and stained glass inspired visual qualities.

The professional grade coloured films and metallic liners used in our workshops are also manufactured by a glass manufacturer that produces traditional glass products and materials for glass related applications.

What does the workshop price include?

Our pricing reflects both the specialized materials and the complete guided creative experience.

Your workshop includes all materials for your selected project, use of studio tools, curated design options, guided instruction, studio time, and your completed piece to take home.

Do I need any previous experience?

Not at all. No previous art or glass experience is required. Our instructors will guide you through the KGAD process and techniques from start to finish.
